Key Performance Indicators of Doors & Windows You Must Know: Sound Insulation, Heat Insulation and Anti-Theft

Latest company news about Key Performance Indicators of Doors & Windows You Must Know: Sound Insulation, Heat Insulation and Anti-Theft
When purchasing doors and windows, many people only focus on the appearance and price, ignoring the core performance indicators, which leads to problems such as poor sound insulation, high energy consumption and insufficient security after installation. For exterior doors and windows of home and office, sound insulation, heat insulation and anti-theft are the three core performance indicators, which directly determine the comfort, energy saving and safety of the space. Whether you are a C-end consumer or a B-end purchaser, understanding these indicators can help you avoid being misled and choose the most suitable products.

1. Anti-theft performance: The core of the main entry door

The anti-theft performance of steel security doors is mainly judged by anti-pry grade and material thickness:

  • Cold-rolled steel doors with a thickness of ≥1.2mm for the door leaf and ≥1.5mm for the door frame are the basic standard for anti-theft;
  • The anti-pry time of qualified security doors is not less than 30 minutes, and the anti-pry hardware (anti-pry bolts, reinforced lock plates) is the key auxiliary part.

For commercial spaces such as offices, it is recommended to choose steel doors with anti-drilling and anti-shearing functions to adapt to high security demand.

2. Heat insulation performance: The key of energy-saving doors and windows

Heat insulation performance is measured by U-value (heat transfer coefficient), the smaller the U-value, the better the heat insulation effect.

  • The U-value of energy-saving doors and windows for cold regions is required to be ≤1.2 W/(m²·K);
  • Aluminum alloy doors with broken bridge profiles and steel doors with thermal insulation filling layer can significantly improve the heat insulation performance, which can save 30%-50% of air conditioning/heating energy consumption for homes and offices.

3. Sound insulation performance: The guarantee of space comfort

The sound insulation performance is measured by sound insulation index (RW), and the RW value of qualified entry doors is not less than 30dB, which can isolate most outdoor noise (traffic, construction, etc.).

  • Steel doors with solid structure and rubber sealing strips have better sound insulation effect;
  • Aluminum alloy double doors with hollow glass and stainless steel screen can achieve both sound insulation and ventilation.

How to check the performance indicators when purchasing?

Qualified doors and windows will be marked with clear performance parameters on the product specification sheet, including U-value, sound insulation index, anti-pry grade, etc. For imported and exported doors and windows, it is also necessary to check whether they meet the local industry standards (such as EU energy efficiency standards, American anti-theft standards).
